Stitched entirely by hand by Chiang Mai artisans. Your wallet will differ slightly from the photographs — the drift of a bird, the lean of a tree. That difference is the signature of the woman who made it.

The story

A harvest scene in thread: villagers in black Hmong dress picking red chilis from embroidered trees, stitched figure by figure onto lilac cotton. It is the kind of storytelling embroidery that takes a Chiang Mai artisan a full working day — and a lifetime of practice.

Zip-around closure with a violet pom-pom pull, cotton-lined interior with card slots and a central zip pocket. Every scene is stitched freehand, so no two Artisan wallets tell the story quite the same way — yours is one of one.

Materials

Hand-embroidered cotton and woven hemp over a structured core. Zip-around closure with a wooden-bead or pom-pom pull. Soft cotton lining with card slots and a central zip pocket.

Dimensions

Approximately 19 x 10 x 2.5 cm. Fits a passport, a phone, and everything a wallet should hold.

Care

Spot-clean gently with a damp cloth. Keep the threads away from rings and rough surfaces. The embroidery softens beautifully with use.

Where they come from

A wooden crate in a Chiang Mai stall.

We found these wallets stacked in an old bottle crate on a market side street — dozens of them, no two alike, each one the better part of a day at somebody's needle. We bought the crate. Then we asked the artisans to keep going.

How we choose

Picked one by one, by hand.

Every batch that reaches us is laid out on the rack and chosen piece by piece — for the density of the stitching, the balance of the scene, the colors that sing together. What does not delight us stays in Chiang Mai.

“Mine has a little blue bird that the product photos did not have. I am obsessed with it. It feels like it was stitched just for me.”

“You can feel every thread. People stop me to ask about it, and I get to say a woman in Chiang Mai made exactly one of these.”
Maja K. Beauty — Gdansk, Poland Verified purchase
“The chili harvest scene is a tiny artwork. Prettier in person than in any photo — and the pom-pom makes me smile every time.”
